Donor Story

“Your decision could bring light to someone's darkest days”

Harikrishna is a 26-year-old data engineer from Vijayawada. His life took an unexpected turn when he registered online as a potential blood stem cell donor on 13th September 2022. Less than two years later, he got the opportunity to save someone’s life.

He shares his inspiring story of being a lifesaver -

“The decision to become a donor was inspired by my sister, who educated me about the critical need for stem cell donations in saving the lives of patients battling blood cancer. Though there wasn't a specific case in my family, her medical background shed light on the importance of this cause.

The thought of being able to potentially save someone's life filled me with a sense of responsibility and purpose. Despite initial anxieties, I was determined to proceed, despite some initial anxieties. My father's initial hesitation was overcome as we discussed the procedure and its impacts together.

Donation process

Preparation for donation involved following my doctor's instructions meticulously. From maintaining a healthy diet to undergoing G-CSF injections, I ensured I was in the best possible shape to help. Interacting with other donors further solidified my resolve and removed any remaining concerns I had.

On the day of collection, I was nervous as I entered the donation room. Yet, as the process unfolded, my worries dissipated, replaced by a sense of fulfillment. The smooth procedure filled me with hope for the patient who would receive my donation.

After the donation

After the donation procedure, I did encounter some mild discomfort in my back, a common side effect that was thankfully alleviated with the prescribed medication. Despite this temporary discomfort, the overwhelming sense of fulfillment and purpose far outweighed any physical inconvenience. Knowing that my simple act of donation could potentially bring about a life-saving transformation for someone in need filled me with an indescribable sense of joy and satisfaction.

To my recipient, whose identity I may never know but whose life I hope to have touched in a meaningful way, I extend heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery and a journey filled with renewed strength and resilience. May my donation serve as a ray of hope in your darkest moments, reminding you that you are not alone in this fight and that a community of caring individuals stands beside you, rooting for your healing and well-being.

Message for all

To others considering registration, I urge you to do some research before making a decision. The cause is extremely important, but your commitment as a donor is equally crucial to make a difference. Your decision could bring light to someone's darkest days.
