Stem cell donation

Potential second donations

In rare cases, we may ask you to donate stem cells a second time.

We potentially ask you because:

• The transplanted stem cells have not yet multiplied and developed successfully in the patient’s body.
• The patient has suffered a relapse.
• The patient’s body is rejecting the transplanted stem cells.
• The patient needs another stem cell donation, or stem cell boost, to accelerate the restoration of their immune system.

If any of the above reasons occur, we may ask you if you would be willing to make a second stem cell donation. We know that’s not something we can take for granted and that it involves significant effort on your part. But your second donation could be vital to the patient’s survival.

Your second stem cell donation will normally be made at the same collection center as the first one. Our highly trained staff will be ready to assist at any time and will organize everything on your behalf. If you have any questions regarding the second day of donation, please contact us at any time.
