Patient meeting

How is my patient doing?

This is often the question that moves DKMS-BMST donors the most. Many of them feel a deep connection with their "genetic twin" from the very beginning - even though they have not yet met him or her.

Whether and to what extent you as a donor receive information about the health status of "your" patient depends on the rules of the respective country in which the transplantation takes place. In many countries, we as DKMS-BMST ask the transplant hospital about the health status three months after the donation. Depending on the country and the clinic, it can take some time before we receive an answer. As soon as we receive information about the health status, we will inform you immediately.

In addition, there are countries - for example, the USA or the Netherlands - where the clinics automatically inform us about the health status of the recipient of your stem cells in the first year after the transplant. This usually takes much longer than three months. At your request, further health enquiries are also possible on the anniversary of the transplantation. Some clinics and countries generally do not provide us with any information about the patient's health status, or only provide it once.

If you do not wish to receive information about the patient's health, please let us know. We will take your request into account immediately. Of course, you can change your decision to receive health information at any time - just send us a short message.

Do you have any questions or would you like to know more about the individual regulations in each country? Then feel free to contact us! You can reach us at +91 80 6828 6572 or at followup@dkms-bmst.org
