Amilah, a bright and cheerful girl, has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a severe blood disorder. Her only hope is a stem cell transplant, but sadly, no one in her family is a suitable stem cell donor match.
9-year-old Amilah brings joy to everyone around her. She adores spending time with her family, especially her elder brother, and loves playing with her friends and cousins. Despite her struggles, Amilah is a fighter. She lives by her mantra, “Be a warrior, not a worrier,” Her strength inspires everyone. However, frequent hospital visits and missed school days have taken a toll on her once carefree childhood. Amilah’s family has launched the ‘Amilah Means Hope’ appeal, urging everyone to register as stem cell donors.
Finding a match is harder due to her South Asian heritage. Mobeen explains, “Ethnic minority donors are severely underrepresented on the stem cell register. While someone from a similar background is more likely to match, anyone could be her hero.”
By registering as a donor, you could be the lifesaving match not just for Amilah, but for countless others who share her struggles.
Amilah’s battle with aplastic anaemia is a race against time. The sooner a donor is found, the better her chances for recovery with minimal suffering. By registering as a stem cell donor, you could give her—and many others—a second chance at life. A quick cheek swab and a few details about yourself is all it takes to be someone’s potential lifesaver.
