DKMS Foundation India has a mission to give blood cancer and other blood disorder patients with a second chance at life. Such patients need matching blood stem cell donors for a successful stem cell transplant. To achieve this DKMS Foundation India works towards raising awareness about blood stem cell donation and recruit potential blood stem cell donors. We only get in contact with our registered donors and ask them to donate when we have received a request from the transplant physician of the patient. We don’t get directly involved with the patient, but we are responsible for facilitating the donation of blood stem cells, whereas, the physician and treating hospital is responsible for the patient’s transplant. DKMS Foundation India is then reimbursed from the treating hospital of the patient.

DKMS Foundation India incurs a number of different expenses, every time a donor donates. These include a medical examination of the potential donor, laboratory costs as well as the actual cost of the stem cell collection. In addition to this DKMS Foundation India, covers all potential travel costs for the donor and any potential loss of salary.

Any additional funds received by DKMS Foundation India

are reinvested into our mission to provide as many second chances at life to blood cancer patients as possible. The majority of the money goes towards the registration of new donors.

In addition, the donor data is constantly updated to ensure donors are available when they are needed the most.

When searching for a suitable blood stem cell donor, every minute counts for patients and it is vital that we are able to contact our donors immediately. The DKMS group also funds research into blood cancer therapies and works to improve the typing quality of donors, to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.
