Mayur shares his journey of becoming a lifesaver -

I heard about DKMS-BMST Foundation India some time ago through a blood donation drive that I was associated with. When I learned that I could help a blood cancer patient just by registering as a potential donor, I jumped at the opportunity! I’ve always been really passionate about helping people, and registering with DKMS-BMST seemed like the right thing to do.

Cancer's devastating impact has always intrigued me. Discovering that I could potentially save the life of a blood cancer patient motivated me to register as a potential stem cell donor. I've always understood the severity of blood cancer, so learning how I could help in their fight solidified my decision to register.

Donation Process

My family raised questions and some concerns about the process's intricacies and potential side effects. But my friends and colleagues were incredibly supportive, especially my friend Rina, who offered constant guidance. Preparation for the donation was straightforward. I maintained a healthy lifestyle and avoided illness. I ensured proper nutrition and hydration and endeavored to stay vigilant about my health.

The collection involved an injection and stem cell mobilization. On the collection day, the donation took around 2 hours and 20 minutes. It was safe and easy, and I felt really good about what I had done.

After the donation

In the time immediately after the donation, I experienced a strong sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Knowing that I had taken a step to potentially help someone’s life was immensely satisfying. This positive feeling was accompanied by a renewed sense of gratitude for my own well-being. Knowing that I had contributed to someone's recovery gave me a profound sense of purpose and positivity. It also reinforced the importance of empathy and the impact that even small actions can have on others' lives. I wish- my recipient a swift and smooth recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this journey. May they embrace health and happiness soon!
